The History of the Urlingford Fire Station The Urlingford Fire Station began in 1950. The total crew consisted of three members. Station Officer was Neddy Curran the firemen were James Kealy and John Hickey. The fire station was situated on main street beside Guard Quigley's house.
In 1953 there were a change of crew John Hickey became Station Officer, and fire men were James Kealy, Neddy Curran and Gerard Grace. The first major fire they attended was in Market house in Urlingford in 1961 where a car and a number of chickens were burned.
In 1962 Urlingford had a hose and ladder crew of fire. It consisted of a two wheeled cart with 6 hoses 4 main buckets of sand,stand pipe key and bar with two ladders and a portable pump housed in Mick Hickey Garage, Main Street Urlingford. At the end of 1964 Neddy Curran retired and was replaced by Michael Tone.
In 1972 the new Fire Station was built by Sweeper Ryan Littleton,beside the Church. Michael Tone took over as station officer with John Hickey as sub officer, fire men were James Kealy driver, Paddy Neary, Neddy Neary, Danny Broderick, Paddy Burke and Gerard Grace.
In 1973 James Kealy retired and Tom Hickey joined, Paddy Neary was driver no 1 and Neddy Neary was driver no 2
Neddy Neary was S.O. from 1994 to 2000. A fire engine arrived in 2002. This was built by Sidhean Teo Galway on a Volvo Chassis.
The Current Crew is S.O. Michael Kealy,S.S.O. Tom Hickey, driver James Tone, Driver Derek Butler, Barry Neary, Pat Stokes, Keith Behan, Lar Phelan, James Kealy.
